University of St Andrews - School of English
Location: St Andrews, Scotland
Deadline: 30 June 2011

This position is available from September 2011. You will contribute, as part of a team, towards a module in stage and screen writing, a core module for the MLitt degree in Creative Writing.

This contribution will take the form of a short (six-week) module of your own design, in which postgraduate students will gain a working knowledge of the whole process of writing for stage, from the drafting of a short play, through the process of script-editing, workshopping and rehearsal, to staging and performance before an audience. The award winning playwright James Graham has written the opening to the play 'Power Lines'. Each week throughout 2011, you can send in your Next Best Page. At the end of each week, the team will read all the pages they receive and decide which page will join The Script. Then the process will begin again, and again and again until the end of 2011.

Each writer will take their inspiration from the previous pages and be the inspiration for the next page. The Play will then be staged in 2012 at venues to be confirmed.

The play does not need to be read in advance –find out what happens as the group reads together each week.

The Rites of Story Weaving
Border Crossing Laboratory and Royal Holloway, University of London
Location: London,UK
Dates: 29 June - 1 July 2011

This three-day workshop led by Writer/director Marie Clements will be a highly integrated and collaborative investigation into the creation of Aboriginal infused modern storytelling- working inside of multiple disciplines and cultural perspectives, western and Aboriginal story structures, and contemporary and ancient rituals.

The Rites of Story Weaving will focus on the embodiment of Aboriginal time across tense, the fine lines between blood memory and spirit-making, the base rhythm of land in context with the bones of dramatic text. Thematically using her latest theatrical creation The Edward Curtis Project, the workshop will explore contact as an axis point, what exists between “the documented” and “the documenter” and how these particular seeing-s shape our ideas of vanishing and survival. Guest workshop facilitator and co-collaborator, photo-journalist Rita Leistner will join us in the dialogue and offerings.
