RSAMD in association with Playwrights' Studio, Scotland. We are looking for directors and/or playwrights with an interest in expanding their creative approach to developing and staging new work. You get all you need to make and present your own new work including a three day springboard workshop with award winning playwright/director Duncan Macmillan If you want to write and direct your own new work or create it in partnership, this project will give you all the resources you need to do it: Performers (acting students from RSAMD at the end of their second year); rehearsal space; production support; a small production budget and a 15 – 30 min scratch performance slot as part of On the Verge. On the Verge Monday 21 Jun 2010 - Thu 24 Jun 2010 Artists will question and push the boundaries of the theatrical form in scratch presentations (including pieces developed in conjunction with the Playwrights’ Studio) alongside devised performances, new-writing and solo performance based upon classical text, visual art, folk-tales and our contemporary existence. On The Verge promises to be raw, provocative and exciting… Dates 1, 2 & 3 June – the full ensemble will work with Duncan Macmillan, who will share his approach to writing and directing and lead workshop exercises 4 to 20 June – the development and rehearsal process will happen during this time with each company arranging and agreeing their own rehearsal schedule within the availability of the rehearsal spaces 21 to 24 June - Tech, Dress Rehearsals and Performances of the new writing at the Arches as part of the On the Verge scratch festival. | Applications Now Open for the 2010/2011 Mentoring Session | ||||
The Playwrights' Studio, Scotland is now accepting applications for our 2010/2011 Mentoring Session. Every year the Playwrights’ Studio offers an opportunity for new playwrights to be mentored by established playwrights. This is an amazing chance to improve your writing skills and gain valuable insights into the playwriting process. Eligible Applicants You should be an emerging playwright, living in Scotland or from Scotland and living elsewhere, with a particular play you hope to develop during your mentoring time. You do not need to have been produced in order to qualify. You should be available from September 2010 for six months to work on your script regularly. Mentees will be matched with a mentor in September and will remain in communication with this mentor over the six month working period. To Apply Please Send:

Applications are now open for Writer’s Projects 2010/2011. You, the professional playwright, can apply for up to £3,250 to support any aspect of your writing development. A limited number of Writer’s Projects are available. In selecting which ones to support we will consider;

The Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland is committed to working in partnership to enable activity for playwrights across Scotland and beyond. Applications are open for Partner Project funding 2010/2011. The Scottish Society of Playwrights' Annual General Meeting The Scottish Society of Playwrights Location: Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh Date: 26 June 2010, 11am The Scottish Society of Playwrights' AGM starts at 11am and playwrights of all levels are more than welcome. The AGM is an opportunity to find out what the SSP has been doing over the last year, discuss the current climate for playwrights in Scotland, as well as raising any queries you may have. The SSP will also be putting forward a proposal regarding their contract with the FST and electing a new council. There will be a guest speaker, Louise Stephens, who will be talking about her project in conjunction with the Playwrights Studio which aims to create a comprehensive database of all Scottish playwriting. SSP membership is £10 and as well as providing representation and advocacy membership, gets you discounted tickets at The Traverse, The Tron, The Lyceum and The Citizens. The McLellan Award for Play Writing 2010 Arran Theatre and Arts Trust Location: Arran, Scotland Deadline: 31 July 2010 This award asks for plays in contemporary living Scots, in any urban or rural dialect. Plays should be for a cast of up to 5 actors, without doubling, with a running time of between 40 and 90 minutes. The winning playwright will receive prize money of £1000 as well as the McLellan Award 2010 created by sculptor, Marvin Elliot and, funding permitting, the opportunity to workshop their play with Nutshell Theatre Company culminating in a script in hand performance at the McLellan Arts Festival in September 2010. Previous winners include Shetland writer, Jacqui Clarke and young Ayrshire writer, Fiona Connor.
