Illuminate investigates varying aspects of contemporary theatre practice, as part of the Playwrights’ Studio’s commitment to exploring and developing the artform of theatre.

Join us for Ways and Means, a one day symposium looking at ways of working with playwrights in theatre by different means. The day is for playwrights and other professional theatre practitioners, and also open to members of the public interested in the subject.

There is a big question at the heart of contemporary theatre making about who wants to make work with playwrights and how;

Everywhere you look there are theatre pieces being: devised, made collaboratively, story boarded and sometimes written. Sometimes there is a playwright; sometimes there is a dramaturg. There are as many ways of working as there are productions being created, but how would you like to work and what are the barriers to success?

We are looking for theatre makers to find practical solutions for artistic questions. This question lies right at the heart of the future of theatre making and is central to the playwrights’ ability to be a part of that future.

To start the day off there will be an hour of sessions from organisations that provide support to playwrights for areas out with their writing;
A – Scottish Society of Playwrights; Contracts for a range of theatre making
B – Cultural Enterprise Office; Project Planning to lead your own process
C – literaturetraining; getting to where you want to be - DIY professional development planning
D - Total Theatre; connecting with theatre makers around the UK

Then the discussions will begin. There will be no centralised platform; this will be a day of group conversations directed by you the participants. These will be in the subject area of the question posed above and stimulated by provocations from playwrights.

Tickets for the day cost £25* including lunch, coffee and a glass of wine and are available from
info@playwrightsstudio.co.uk or by calling the Playwrights' Studio on 0141 332 4403.

A limited number of discounted places are available for playwrights. For details please email claire@playwrightsstudio.co.uk or call Claire on 0141 332 4403.

Fire Works is a young company based in Glasgow who are looking for writers who have plays ready to be produced by them.

They have approx 5 actors, all very keen to do Scottish work, and
are looking for something to suit a 20 – 25 year age group, but not something as
heavy as Look Back in Anger.

For more details and information contact Judith Riddell on 07731571106 or via email on judithriddell@googlemail.com

Finborough Theatre's Literary Department accepts unsolicited new plays. Scripts are dealt with by our Literary Manager and a team of script-readers in association with the Artistic Director. They are looking for plays and new writers specifically for the Finborough Theatre, not just 'good' plays, so please carefully read the notes on their website before sending your work to them.
