| Writers Factory: Feature Film Course Eleanor Yule/Scottish Screenwriters Location: CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow Dates: 30 March - 24 August 2010 This long-awaited 22 week intensive evening class will have its first run at the CCA in Glasgow in Spring 2010. Devised by UK screenwriting guru Phil Parker and intended for committed screenwriters, the course is heavily workshop based and includes new thinking on the craft, particularly relating to the central importance of genre and theme. The workload for participants will be significant throughout the 22 weeks, the aim being to move from idea to completed rough draft feature film screenplay within a supportive developmental environment. Ideally, participants will begin the course with a new idea rather than reworking extant material. The course will be taught by writer, director Eleanor Yule in collaboration with Scottish Screenwriters. Writers Factory: Introduction to Screenwriting Course Edinburgh Skillset Screen and Media Academy Scotland Location: Screen Academy Scotland Production Centre, Edinburgh Dates: 7th October 2010 - 24th March 2011, 6-8pm The UK Film Council commissioned the Writers Factory syllabus to provide writers with foundation skills in screenwriting, and it’s now a well-established part of Scotland’s creative writing landscape. The course takes place over 22 weeks and encourages you to explore more fully your storytelling instincts, study the craft of screenwriting, workshop with your peers, and develop and write a commercial ten-minute film. It’s delivered by multi-award winning Edinburgh-based film and television producer, screenwriter and experienced Writers’ Factory lecturer, Nigel R. Smith. Trained at the Media Business School in Spain and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the US, Nigel’s many and varied credits include children’s space adventure sitcom Intergalactic Kitchen and Tartan Shorts, Cry for Bobo, for the BBC. The aim of this course is to move from idea to completed Rough Draft feature film screenplay within a supportive developmental environment. You must either have completed the Writers’ Factory Introduction to Screenwriting course or the Edinburgh Skillset Screen & Media Academy PGCert or Masters screenwriting programmes. A short sample of your screenwriting will also be required. | Glasgow Film Festival 2011 - Call for Entries The Glasgow Film Festival is now accepting submissions for 2011. The Festival will run from 17-27 February, in venues across Glasgow. Co-Directors Allison Gardner and Allan Hunter are hard at work selecting a programme that will build on the Festival's success and growing international reputation. The films received as submissions are a vital part of that programme.
MA Screenwriting - Applications Open Edinburgh Napier University Location: Edinburgh A challenging programme for aspiring film, television and interactive screenwriters wanting to develop their creative skills The MA Screenwriting programme is offered on a full-time or part-time basis and aims to equip you with the creative, professional and technical knowledge and craft skills required by the professional screenwriter across a range of film, television and interactive media. There are regular masterclasses and visits from professionals working at the highest level in the film, television and interactive screen industries. Although there is a substantial taught element the programme has a strong project-based emphasis and you are expected to write a number of proposals, treatments and scripts, of varying lengths and in a variety of genres, thus developing a range of skills and experience as well as a substantial portfolio of work. First Sparks/Sparks Plus Screen Yorkshire Location: Yorkshire/Humber, UK Deadline: 3 September 2010 First Sparks The funding is to support the editor or mentor to work with the writer to develop a project; it is not to cover writer fees. The applicant is the writer and they must name the editor or mentor they wish to work with on the application, including details of their experience and why they have been chosen. If the applicant cannot name a mentor/editor and the project is of quality, Screen Yorkshire will help with finding and selecting such a person. Awards are up to £1,500 for script development, with a smaller amount expected for treatment development and projects that have already reached draft stage. Spark Plus ( Strand One) Strand One funding is to support the writer, it is not to cover producer fees or overheads. The applicant is the producer and they must name the writer on the application, including details of why they wish to work with them and their intentions for the project once developed. Glasgow Film Festival's Great Scots on Tour Programme Glasgow Film Festival Location: Glasgow, Scotland Great Scots on Tour was one of the strands of this year's Glasgow Film Festival in February 2010. The Festival attracted record numbers, many of whom came to see films and events which were flying the flag for Scotland.
