Rehearsed Reading: Niqabi Ninja by Sara Sharaawi

Rehearsed reading of Sara Shaarawi's play  Niqabi Ninja, followed by a Q&A.

Niqabi Ninja  is the story of one young woman's transformation into an avenging superhero. Combining darkly comic fiction with real life events, Niqabi Ninja  explores the anger, the frustration, the absurdity and the danger of an everywoman's experience.

Written in reaction to the mob sexual assaults of Tahrir Square, which took place between 2012 and 2014 in Cairo, Niqabi Ninja is a revenge fantasy, an origin story of a young woman's transformation into a Cairene vigilante, and the journey through rape culture that brought her to this point. Combining harrowing facts with humorous fiction, Niqabi Ninja explores the anger, frustration, absurdity and the danger of an everywoman's experience; whether it's walking down the street, going out or going to a demonstration.

Please note:  The play contains decriptions of sexual violence and swearing.

This event is wheelchair accessible.
