Anita John

Anita is an emerging playwright, published poet and fiction writer and also a creative writing tutor.

A clip from her script for the National Theatre of Scotland's Yes, No, Don't Know Five Minute Theatre Showwas included in the TV documentary The National Theatre of Scotland: A Dramatic Decade, screened on BBC Two in 2016.

Her scripts for the historical community play Pentlands at War contributed to her being selected for the TAPS Nations and Regions Showcase course where she benefited from advice from industry professionals Diane Culverhouse and Bill Lyons.

Most recently she has benefitted from a theatre script-writing mentoring opportunity with Treading the Borders Theatre Company, with advice from Jane Houston Green and Tim Nevil.

Anita's poetry and prose has been published widely online, in anthologies, magazines and newspapers including The Scotsman, MsLexia, Aesthetica, Gutter, Northwords Now, the Eildon Tree, Scottish PENnings and Zoomorphic, among others.

In 2013 Child's Eye, her debut collection of short stories and poems, was published by Biscuit Publishing after winning the 2012 Biscuit International Short Stories and Flash Fiction competition. In 2013 she was selected as a Borders Showcase Poet by the Scottish Poetry Library and CABN.

Currently she is Writer in Residence for the RSPB Scotland Loch Leven, helping the reserve to celebrate and document its 50th anniversary. She has an MSc in Creative Writing from Edinburgh University, is a Live Literature Scotland Author and has taught creative writing for Edinburgh University's Lifelong Learning Department.
