Born in Hamilton in 1952, Dave is married with five children and lives with his wife, Kay, in Tain in the Highlands.
Dave has worked in touring theatre since 1985. Previously, he has worked in the arts and entertainment industries as a ceilidh band drummer, circus hand and an illustrator. Originally, his theatre work was with Clown Jewels creating company devised productions. Dave recieved his first full playwriting commission in 2000, and has gone on to form writer-led theatre company, Right Lines Productions with Euan Martin.
Dave also directs, writes and animates for his children's theatre company, Cartoon Theatre, which is a combination of animation and live performance. Dave has led workshops in all these areas of work.
He particularly enjoys working in the Highlands and servicing its widespread and diverse community. Right Lines Productions received a Herald Angel award for its production of The Comic at the Edinburgh Festival. Their play, Accidental Death of an Accordionist, received the Arts and Business award. Gizzenbriggs, an animation produced by Dave and the pupils of Tain Academy, were the winners of an Engage Scotland Art in Education award
Whisky Kisses - the musical was the runner up in the Highland Quest, Cameron Macintosh, competition for a new Highland Musical and went on to become the 2014 flagship production at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
