Des Dillon's novel Me and Ma Gal was shortlisted for the Saltire Society First Book Award and won the World Book Day poll for the novel that best describes Scotland today, and was selected as one of 100 All Time Best Scottish Books. His work has been anthologised internationally. His latest award was The Lion and Unicorn prize for the best of Irish and British literature in the Russian Language (2007). The Russian version of his play Six Black Candles ran in Kievfor for four years. He wrote the play, Singin I'm No a Billy He's a Tim.
