About the Programme

Applications are now closed and will reopen in the summer 2019.

Every year, Playwrights' Studio, Scotland selects six aspiring or emerging playwrights for an  eight month programme of mentoring. The Mentoring Programme is delivered by established professional playwrights, to support the development of new plays. This is an opportunity to improve playwriting skills and gain valuable insight into the playwriting process and profession.  

Programme Summary:

  • One mentoring session each month for six months with an established professional playwright, which includes script in progress feedback  
  • One theatre visit  
  • Supporting workshops  
  • Individual readthrough and discussion  with professional actors and directors  
  • Public sharing of extracts from all six plays.  

Dates for programme:

Playwrights Induction Day Wednesday  12 December 2018 (full day)  

Mentoring: Six two-hour sessions scheduled mid-month between January and June  

Workshops:   To be held in Feburary and June 2019

Individual  readthrough Two half day sessions on Tuesday  9 and/or Wednesday 1 July 2019   

Public  sharing The evening of Wednesday 10 July 2019  

The theatre trip and workshops are anticipated to take place between April and June.  

In excess of 70 playwrights have been mentored through this Programme. About the Programme

Laura Tansley is an emerging writer based in Glasgow. She is one of Playwrights' Studio, Scotland's mentored playwrights for 2017/18.

About the Programme

Ellen Renton is a writer based in Edinburgh. She studied English Literature at the University of Glasgow and then a Masters in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia.
