The Climate of Rural Theatre

In the third of our international webinars with the Playwrights' Guild of Canada, Canada's Lisa O'Connell and Scotland's George Gunn co-facilitated a discussion on the current climate of Rural Theatre and how we can advance the creative content that emerges from rural communities.

George Gunn George Gunn's first play was Roughneck  (Traverse, 1984). Since then he has written over 50 plays for stage, community groups, schools and BBC radio. He was Artistic Director of Grey Coast Theatre Company for 19 years, which was based in Caithness. They produced new plays by new Highland writers which toured Scotland, as well as large and small scale site-specific productions in the Far North, and lots of work with and for schools throughout the Highlands and Islands.
Lisa _oconnell _200 Lisa O'Connell is the founding Artistic Director of Pat the Dog Theatre Creation, the only playwright centre in Ontario open to theatre creators at all stages of their career. PTD playwrights' work has been presented at the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, SummerWorks Theatre Festival, MT Space Theatre, Sudbury Theatre Centre, Theatre Aquarius.
