Fuse: Script Reading Service

Written a play, but don't know how to take the next step?

Our free Script Reading Service, Fuse, provides an opportunity for Scotland's writers to receive valuablescript feedback from theatre professionals. The feedback about these new plays is then made available to the Artistic Directors of our Partner organisations.

Why participate?

Who are the Script Reading Service Partners?

Ankur Productions, Byre Theatre, Catherine Wheels, Citizens’ Theatre, Dundee Rep, Grid Iron, Horsecross (Perth Rep), macrobert, Magnetic North, Mull Theatre, National Theatre of Scotland, A Play, A Pie and A Pint (Oran Mor), Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Royal Lyceum Theatre, Stellar Quines, TAG Theatre Company, Tosg, Tron Theatre and Vanishing Point.

What plays are eligible?

We will only consider one play per writer, per year.

Please note that plays written in languages other than English are eligible, but may take longer to process.

How do I submit a play?

We have updated our Fuce process. Please submit scripts by email

  1. Your script and cover letter must be submitted as an editable Word file.
  2. Number your pages;
  3. Include a cover sheet stating your name, title of the play, address, phone number, email address, language in which your play is written, and any special communication needs you may have;
  4. Do not include details that identify you as the writer on any page of the script except the cover sheet;
  5. Email your play with 'Fuse' in the subject line to: info@playwrightsstudio.co.uk

If you don't have access to email and wish to post your script, follow the same process as above, but post to: Playwrights' Studio, Scotland, CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G2 3JD.

What happens next?

  1. You will receive an email acknowledging your submission and detailing the next stage
  2. Your play will be read anonymously by a highly skilled reader who will give written feedback;
  3. We will post you a copy of this feedback;
  4. The feedback report will be available to all of our Fuse Partners, but will be kept confidential if you specifically request this.

If any of the Partners have an interest in your writing we will put you in touch with them.
