Translation Resources Information
If you are a non UK producing theatre organisation who would like to translate a play from one of Scotland’s playwrights into another language, there is a resource to help you.
It is specifically for a translation of a play has not previously been translated into your language, for presentation at a public production or reading outside the UK.
There is up to £500 Sterling available for a translation.
Eligibility
Requests should come directly from the producing theatre organisation.
Final approval to proceed with the translation will come from the original playwright; your company will be required to produce a signed form of consent from the playwright or their agent.

Your company is required to give us the date/dates for the production/reading and to keep us informed of any changes.
The payment will be made in pounds sterling, any exchange fees or related banking charges are the responsibility of your company.
The payment will be made in two instalments, one on successful submission and the other following receipt of: required information on public presentation, a copy of the literal translation and a copy of the performed text.
We will consider requests on a rolling programme with the following submission dates:
15 June 2008
15 September 2008
15 December 2008
15 March 2009
Preference will be given to: requests regarding plays of notable critical standing, playwrights who have not previously benefited from this fund within that financial year, plays that have not previously benefited from this fund within that financial year and where other resources for translation are not available.
This is a limited resource and success will be influenced by the volume of requests as well as the suitability of the proposal.
Two independent assessors will work with the Playwrights’ Studio to select which projects will be resourced.

Note: Your company should agree to time limited rights on 1st option of the translation; then they will revert to the translator (this should not impinge on the rights of the originating playwright).
