Writers' Projects - Applications closed

New opportunities will be announced in 2012

We want to stimulate, provoke, support and enable you, as a playwright to develop your work in a way that best suits your creative process. This is part of our commitment to a flexible, accessible process where the writer’s needs are at the heart of our activity.

You, the professional playwright, can apply for up to £3,250 to support any aspect of your writing development.

A limited number of Writer’s Projects are available. In selecting which ones to support we will consider:

Here are some examples of ways in which you might like support:

We are, however, hoping that you will have ideas beyond these suggestions.

We will run the project for you, providing administrative support and handling all the financial management, and will work closely with you to ensure that the project successfully meets your needs.

Application Criteria
Applications to the Writers’ Project scheme must be submitted by individual playwrights. You can apply if you:

We will prioritise projects that do not already have any funding.

Past Awards

Oliver Emanuel
Oliver has been awarded funding to support a translation and new version of Jan Sobrie’s Belgian play, Titus, from the original text for the Scottish stage with dramaturgical assistance from director, Lu Kemp.

Jo Clifford
Jo is working with the actor David Walshe and the director/voice coach Susan Worsfold to explore the connections between voicework and the creation of dramatic text; to see how finding her voice as a performer affects her using her voice as a writer; to use the process to create a show about spirituality and forbidden sexualities.

Lynda Radley
Awarded funding for a concentrated period of research towards a new project with Poorboy. Lynda will be exploring innovative dramaturgical methodologies and taking an in depth look at child protection issues.

Morna Pearson
Aims to develop an idea that explores the relationship between humans and their pets, using puppetry and live actors in a workshop setting. This project will hopefully result in a first draft of an exciting, funny and dark play.

Alan McKendrick:
This Writer's Project Award will afford Alan time and opportunity to create a series of short new dramatic texts. These texts will then have a series of accompanying original photographic images created for them by Tobias Feltus, with the work ultimately being publicly presented as a rolling slideshow with voiceover.
