A Playwrights' Gathering: beyond COVID-19
The event was held on 12 June 2020.
When we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis, what could the future of live theatre and playwriting in Scotland look like? What role can playwrights - and the organisations established to promote, support and represent their interests - play in shaping this new world?
Please join the
Scottish Society of Playwrights, Playwrights' Studio,
Scotland, the
Writers Guild of
Great Britain, and your playwright friends and colleagues to
begin the conversation.
At this Gathering, we will hear:
- Contributions from playwrights Peter Arnott, Annie George, and Jules Horne & Bill Armstrong from the Writers Guild of Great Britain, Playwrights' Studio, Scotland and the Scottish Society of Playwrights
- The action already being taken on behalf of the wider arts and theatre sector by Culture Counts, and the Federation of Scottish Theatre
- How to make your voice heard and influence decision-makers, individually and as part of a collective response
Diversity is essential to a thriving cultural sector and we want
to ensure that as many different voices and views as possible are
represented. We would love you to attend, particularly if you
haven't been able to come to a Gathering before.
This event is for all playwrights, living and working in
Scotland, at any stage of their careers.
Immediately afterwards, we will ask for your views to help us
formulate a submission to the Scottish Parliament's Culture,
Tourism, Europe and External Affairs Committee inquiry on the impact of COVID-19 on Scotland's
Culture and Tourism Sectors - and to inform our advocacy with
other organisations.
Even if you can't attend, we will invite you to make a submission.
And we hope to facilitate another Gathering in the near future on
the creative possibilities beyond COVID-19.
This is an online event, and will be
accessible through British Sign Language
and live captioning. Please let us know if there is another way we can make this event more accessible for you. Email access@playwrightsstudio.co.uk to discuss this. |
