Script Surgeries

Writing a play? Looking for feedback on your writing - and advice on taking it to the next draft? Fifty-minute, one-to-one sessions for Fringe participants and/or Scotland-based playwrights.

TalkFest Script Surgeries will take place at Fringe Central @ Appleton Tower: Workshop Room on Saturday 19 August 2017 between 11am and 4pm. 

The Script Surgeons will be Gowan Calder and Stephen Greenhorn.

Part of TalkFest at the Edinburgh Festival.

Gowan Calder Gowan Calder is an actress, director and writer based in Scotland. She began her writing career as a playwright but has more recently been creating interactive graphic novels with The Scotttish Book Trust.  Her works for stage include: Truth Conquers All, produced by West Lothian Youth Theatre, Linlithgow Palace, Days of War and Rosie, produced by A Play, a Pie and a Pint, Òran Mór, Glasgow, Backstage at the Pussy-Kat Klub, premiered at The Arches as part of 'Glasgay' and An Audience with the Lizard Lady, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Stephen Greenhorn Stephen Greenhorn is a Scottish playwright and screenwriter. He has been writing professionally since 1989. Original or adapted works for the stage include: The Salt Wound (1994), Dissent (1998) and Gilt(2003) for 7:84; Passing Places (1997) and The Ballad of Crazy Paola (2001) for the Traverse Theatre; Sleeping Around (1998) with Abi Morgan, Mark Ravenhill and Hilary Fannin for Paines Plough, King Matt (2001) for TAG Theatre Company and Sunshine on Leith for Dundee Rep, and the subsequent screenplay.

How do I apply?

Click on the Submit button below to start your application. Submittable will ask you to create an account (or sign in to your existing account). You will need to fill in your name and email address and choose a password.

Once you've created an account, you will then be asked to fill in your contact details, equalities information and upload your extract.

You will need to provide:

  • The title of your play
  • A synopsis of your play
  • The reason that you'd like to be considered for a script surgery (no more than 100 words)
  • The playwright you would like to meet with (if you have a preference)
  • A 30 page extract in either Word or PDF format

Once you have completed all questions, click the final Submit button. You should then receive an email confirming the submission of your application.

The Script Surgeries will take place at The Workshop Room @ Fringe Central, Appleton Tower, University of Edinburgh, 11 Crichton Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9LE on Saturday 19 August 2017 between 11am and 4pm.

Deadline: 5pm on Friday 28 July 2017
