The Ethics of Storytelling
Is it possible to tell stories with honesty, thoughtfulness, and accuracy that are outwith your own lived experience? When is it appropriate to use verbatim text? What are the ethics of writing characters based on real people, whether contemporary or historical?
Join us for a free online panel discussion on the ethics of storytelling. Chaired by playwright Nicola McCartney (Holding/Holding On, How Not To Drown), panelists will share their thoughts on best practice and potential approaches to this kind of work. Panel includes Apphia Campbell (Black is the Color of my Voice, Woke), Martin O'Connor (The Mark of the Beast, Building A Nation), Mariem Omari (If I Had A Girl, The Trojans) and Stephen Grant (Associate, Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP).
This event was delivered by National Theatre of Scotland and Playwrights' Studio, Scotland.
A recording of this panel discussion is available on our YouTube Channel until Thursday 26 August 2021.
