Aodhan Gallagher is an emerging playwright born and raised in Glasgow. He moved to New York City in 2015 after receiving a full scholarship to study at New York University, in the Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing, and is one of the 2019 BFA graduates. He intends to continue developing his work back home in the UK, and is dedicated to creating complex, challenging LGBTQ and working-class roles for stage, screen and fiction.
He was one of the ten writers selected to participate in the 2019 David Higham Associates Open Day for under-represented voices and was listed as an official finalist for the 2014 Beverly Hills Screenplay Contest in the stage play category.
Mentoring Programme 2020
Aodhan was part of our Mentoring Programme for 2020. He developed Write-Off as part of the programme:
Freddie is a gay man, but not a gay novelist. His books are simply stories - they have no personal or political undertones. He then meets Ben, a twenty-four year old aspiring novelist and outspoken gay man. This momentary partnership invites these two gay men from very different generations to tell their stories and, whether Freddie likes it or not, these stories become inescapably personal and political.
Aodhan was mentored by Adura Onashile.
