Campbell Hutcheson

Campbell Hutcheson is a freelance journalist, writer and playwright.

Born and brought up in Glasgow, he has lived in the Borders for more than 30 years.

He took part in 2017 workshops for Treading the Borders Theatre Company's Brief Encounters project. This celebration of the new Borders Railway led to his first play, Southbound.

Campbell was one of 10 playwrights selected to take part in the Scottish Borders Playwriting Programme (2017-19), under the guidance of Playwrights' Studio, Scotland associate playwright Jules Horne. An excerpt from his second play, Better at the Strath, was performed with the group's work at TalkFest in the Borders (January 2018). The full play was premiered at DunsPlayFest (May 2019), the Borders' first festival of dramatic writing, theatre and performance.

He is a member of Borders Pub Theatre, which was created in 2019 by those involved in the SBPP. Campbell's short plays, It's Pronounced Stow and Hunter's Call, were performed that year in BPT showcases at Selkirk and Hawick.

Another short play, In The Fold, was due to be part of BPT's programme at DunsPlayFest in 2020, but this event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
