Scottish Borders Playwriting Programme

Campbell Hutcheson

Campbell Hutcheson is a freelance journalist, writer and playwright.

Born and brought up in Glasgow, he has lived in the Borders for more than 30 years.

He took part in 2017 workshops, led by Tim Nevil and Jane Houston Green, for Treading the Borders Theatre Company's "Brief Encounters" project. This celebration of the new Borders Railway yielded his first play, "Southbound".

Campbell is one of 10 playwrights selected to take part in the Scottish Borders Playwriting Programme (July 2017-present), under the guidance of Playwrights' Studio, Scotland Associate Playwright Jules Horne. An excerpt from his second play, Better at the Strath, was performed with the group's work at TalkFest in the Borders in January 2018. The full play will be premiered at DunsPlayFest (May 4-11, 2019), the Borders' first festival of dramatic writing, theatre and performance.

He is vice-chair of the Borders Writers' Forum, a group dedicated to celebrating the region's writing in all its forms.
