Born in Hamilton in 1952, Dave is married with five children and lives with his wife, Kay, in Tain in the Highlands.
Dave has worked in touring theatre since 1985. Previously, he worked in the arts and entertainment industries as a ceilidh band drummer, circus hand and an illustrator. Originally, his theatre work was with Clown Jewels creating company devised productions.
Dave directs, writes, and animates for his children's theatre company, Cartoon Theatre, which is a combination of animation and live performance. Dave has led workshops in all these areas of work.
Gizzenbriggs, an animation produced by Dave and the pupils of Tain Academy, won the Engage Scotland Art in Education award. Cartoon Theatre received a Herald Angel award for its production of The Comic at the Edinburgh Festival and Olympic Inspire Mark 2012 for Sporting Chance.
Dave received his first full playwriting commission in 2000, and went on to form the writer-led theatre company, Right Lines Productions with Euan Martin. He particularly enjoys working in the Highlands and servicing its widespread and diverse community.
Right Lines' plays, Accidental Death of an Accordionist and Rapid Departure both received Arts and Business awards.
Whisky Kisses - The Musical was the runner up in the Highland Quest, Cameron Macintosh, competition for a new Highland Musical and went on to become the 2014 flagship production at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
Most recently Euan and Dave created the very successful Isle of Love, an Indie-pop Juke box musical with Adam Ross of Randolph's Leap.
Dave continues to write and currently has 6 scripts in development. He enjoys running writing workshops, animation workshops and script editing.
