Isabel Wright

Isabel Wright is a playwright and scriptwriter based in Edinburgh.

Her radio play, Shrapnel, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in November 2019 and her play Daniel is part of Play, Pie and A Pint Spring Season, 2020.

Her stage plays have received productions and performed readings in Scotland and across the rest of the UK, and have received subsequent performances and readings in translation internationally.

Her plays include Speedrun (Tron), Blooded (Boilerhouse),  Peepshow (Frantic Assembly), Gilt (7-84), Mr Placebo and 15 Seconds (translation) (Traverse). Recent productions include Whatever Gets You Through the Night (Pachamama) Blind Eye for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and The Illicit Dark, for the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Her commission for Scottish Ensemble, a collaboration of string music and performance for primary school age children, toured in Spring 2015.

She contributed ideas for 'Ooglies', an animation for (Kolik Films/CBBC). She has worked as a script reader, script consultant and playwriting mentor on numerous occasions. She also has extensive experience as a workshop leader, leading drama and creative writing workshops with young people and adults in a variety of school and community settings including for the Traverse Theatre, Scottish Youth Theatre, Edinburgh College, the Edinburgh International Festival and the National Theatre's New Views project. 

She has a Masters in English Literature from the Open University.
