Jill Franklin
Jill is a playwright who lives in Edinburgh. She graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an MSc Playwriting in 2016 and was a Playwright Studio Mentored Playwright in 2017/18.
Her play, Hindsight, was shortlisted for the David Maclennan award in 2016 and performed at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival by Fox and Hound Theatre Company where it was awarded an Independent award for best drama. Hindsight was due to be performed at the Scottish parliament in 2020 in partnership with the National Autistic Society Scotland, to raise awareness of autism but was postponed due to Covid19.
Jill is a member of Village Pub Theatre, a playwright led collective based in Leith staging new writing events in informal settings and online. She is also a founding member of Penpal Productions, a theatre company established by graduates of the MSc Playwriting with the aim of staging new writing in Scotland.
Jill has had professional readings of her work in the Traverse Theatre, as part of her graduate dissertation, Some Sunny Day and the Citizen's Theatre, Glasgow as part of her mentorship, CV:The Basics. She has had short plays performed in the Tron Theatre, Glasgow and the Scottish Parliament. She has worked with Blazing Hyena theatre company on development and an extract of Hindsight was produced by them in 2017.
