Michael Shand

Michael is an award winning Edinburgh based playwright and novelist.

THEATRE: Michael completed thirty plays - 13 of which were produced in several festivals throughout Scotland by local theatre company 'That's Lunch Productions'. His stage writing is divided into two very contrasting styles; monologues, which he refers to as his 'regurgitated drop down monologue', and One-Act/Full Length scripts, predominantly written in the Scottish vernacular. His script Depravity  won an Arts Trust of Scotland award in 2012, then subsequently made the short-list for The Tobacco Factory Theatre's Script Space competition. His monologue Different  made the long-list of the same competition the year before.

His Play SENTIMENTALITY was longlisted for the Papatango new writing competition.

Through Playwrights' Studio, Scotland, Michael was involved in a script development workshop with director Amanda Gaughan, working intensely on his monologue, One Who Looks, which is about the intricacies of voyeurism.

NOVELS: Michael is the author of four novels:  Jimmy this, Jimmy that, Some Doors Close, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie and One Who Looks. These books are available from his website and Amazon - both paperback and Kindle. His books are published by Austin Macauley.

His novel Let Sleeping Dogs Lie made the shortlist for the Everything With Words Young Adult Fiction Prize 2019.

Michael has also worked as a journalist for the Edinburgh International Book Festival and a theatre reviewer for TV Bomb.
