Phil Baarda

Phil is a playwright and theatre maker based in the Highlands, and he runs the Inverness Playwrights (a loose collective of drama writers of all kinds and levels) and has set up Lean Scenes (pub theatre in Inverness).  He's also the creative director of Mangonel theatre.

Inverness Playwrights is a welcoming and supportive group of drama writers of all kinds and levels, running workshops, scratch nights, and rehearsed readings Lean Scenes - Inverness pub theatre, is a new initiative taking new writing out to new audiences.  Phil also set up Mangonel Theatre - which produces exciting new work by emerging artists.

Phil's latest play The Astonishing Adventures of the Chevalier Johnstone was due to tour the Highlands and Moray in spring/summer 2020 - and will hopefully forge ahead in 2021.  Phil was a Playwrights' Studio mentored playwright with Douglas Maxwell, where his The Rhum Plants - originally drafted through the scheme - had a full run at EdFringe 2015 with a follow up tour in the Highlands.
