Persian and French
Roxana Vilk is an award winning Iranian/ British film and theatre maker, writer and musician.
She has made films in Iran, Lebanon, France and Norway. Her film Tehran Backyard was nominated for a Royal Television Award, and won best film at Next Frame film festival in the US.
She co-wrote the drama feature film Trouble Sleeping which won a Scottish BAFTA award.
Her film Ashura was nominated for Best short documentary at Edinburgh International Film festival 2011 and also screened at Sheffield Doc Fest. She produced the six part series Poets of Protest for Al Jazeera English, looking at the Arab Spring through the eyes of poets from the region. She also directed three of the episodes. Most recently she was commissioned by Reel Festivals, British Council and Literature without Frontiers to create short films in response to the words of Iraqi poets, filmed in Iraq in 2013. She also recently finished a new film for the BBC called Iranian Enough? exploring cultural identity through a personal story to be broadcast in Feb 2014.
