Supported by the University of St Andrews MLitt in Playwriting and Screenwriting
The Byre Theatre in St Andrews in partnership with Playwrights' Studio, Scotland and Perth Theatre are launching a new Playwriting Award to encourage and support the next generation of playwrights living in Scotland. The award will provide a key opportunity for an emerging playwright's career development.
The St Andrews Playwriting Award is a playwriting competition with the selected playwright receiving a commission and a professional production, produced by Perth Theatre, to be performed in the main auditorium of The Byre Theatre and in Perth Theatre's Joan Knight Studio in January 2023.
As well as a commission fee of £7,800, the selected playwright will be supported throughout the writing process with a residency, mentoring, script development workshops and dramaturgy. An additional two shortlisted writers will receive script development workshops.
Applicants must be:
- Resident in Scotland
- Playwrights who have not had their first professional commission of a full-length play
It is expected that the commissioned play will be for a maximum of four performers and between 60 - 90 minutes.
Applications are now open.
Deadline for applications: 5pm, Monday 17 January 2022
