About Us
Who We Are
Playwrights' Studio, Scotland was established in 2004 at the behest of playwrights to provide artistically independent career support to the playwrights of Scotland.
We are the only arts organisation in the UK exclusively dedicated to the artistic development of writers for live performance. Centring the voice and autonomy of playwrights, we support writers of all levels of experience to reach their creative potential by connecting them with peer support, world-class industry excellence, and opportunities for artistic growth. We do this through structured support programmes, open access resources, networking opportunities and events.
Through partnerships, through advocacy and through listening to the evolving needs of playwrights, we exist to be a home for Scotland’s playwrights. Welcome.
What We Do
We provide a variety of resources to help playwrights in their creative growth. These take a variety of forms including mentoring, bursaries for the development of new plays, and project management support.
We also provide access to our central Glasgow space for playwrights who need a place to hold meetings or speak with collaborators. Writers can rent a room in the Tom McGrath Writers’ Room to have more regular access to a serviced desk space for an affordable rate.
Throughout the year, we provide opportunities for playwrights to meet their peers and hear from industry experts through our programme of events.

Funding
The majority of our support comes from Creative Scotland. We work in partnership with many organisations to deliver activity to as wide a range of people as possible. We also fundraise for activities through charitable trusts and corporate sponsorship and earn money through commercial activities and project management. This allows us to deliver our ambitious plans and provide sustained support to as many playwrights as possible.
